PhD candidate in a full-time position
We are looking for a PhD candidate in a full-time position for 3 years on machine learning, starting as soon as possible. The position involves research on machine learning methods for structured data such as graphs and the creation of online teaching materials for machine learning. The candidate will be employed jointly in the Machine Learning Research Unit (https://ml-tuw.github.io/) of TU Wien, Faculty of Informatics, and the Institute of Computational Perception of JKU Linz (https://www.jku.at/en/institute-of-computational-perception). Employment will be for 20 hours per week at each institution, resulting in a full-time position (40 h).

Job Duties:
- Conduct independent research in the field of machine learning
- Take a strong role in the creation of a Massive Open Online Course
(MOOC) on machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Publish and disseminate research findings in top journals and/or conferences
- Work towards and complete a doctoral dissertation
- Actively take part and cooperate in projects
- Support teaching and administration tasks
- Co-supervise Bachelor’s/Master’s/Diploma theses

Your Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in machine learning; preferably specialised knowledge in several of the following areas: network mining, neural networks, graph theory, mathematical foundations
- Very strong didactic and social skills
- Commitment, creativity, ability and desire to conduct independent scientific work as well as publish and disseminate research findings
- Fluency in English (both oral and written)
- Strong preference for fluency in German (both oral and written)
- Strong inclination to digital teaching, preparing lecture/MOOC materials, and disseminating knowledge
- Ability and willingness to independently teach university-level classes and supervise students in the fields mentioned above

This is a job vacancy within the framework of the BMBWF-funded call "Digital and social transformation in higher education" for the funded project "eInformatics@Austria", which is being carried out within the cluster "Informatics and digital skills". The project involves close cooperation with several Austrian universities; the project partners are each assigned specific areas of responsibility. Cooperation, coordination and use of synergies within the cluster "Informatics and Digital Skills" are essential for the overall success.

Remuneration is based on the minimum wage for salary group B1 and jointly amounts to at least EUR 2,929.- gross/month (14 x per year) for a weekly employment of 40 hours (20 h at TU Wien, 20 h at JKU Linz).
