Automation Engineer (m/f/d)

INVITE is a non-university research organization in the applied sciences, specifically in the field of new production technologies. We promote the development of new ideas and integrate results in industrial applications. INVITE develops process innovations and technology solutions for corporations and companies in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Robotics is one of our strongest growing areas for the last years.

The stakeholders of INVITE are Bayer AG, Technical University of Dortmund and Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf. Company headquarters is at the Chempark in Leverkusen, Germany. Our building is handicapped accessible.


Set up and execute R&D projects in automation (e.g. automation of processes in chemical / pharmaceutical plants and laboratories) in close cooperation with customers from life-science industry
Develop automation proof-of-concepts for lab-scale studies and pilots with a strong focus on systems (hard and software) integration
Cooperate with universities, start-ups and third-party system-integrators
Interact with future users or application partners to clarify the actual need
Scout and develop relevant innovative technologies
Coordinate and integrate interns to support and complement the development and testing

University degree (Master/Diploma or PhD) in automation technology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or similar
Experience or knowledge on how to interface IT systems with operations technology (OT)
Profound experience in process control engineering
Experience with automation in regulated industries such as the pharmaceutical or aviation industry is beneficial
Experience in the field of (modular) automation (e.g. dissertation, project or industry experience) is beneficial
Additional expertise is beneficial in one or more of the following areas:

- lab-automation
- machine learning
- robotics

Strong social skills for appreciative interaction within the team as well as the self-confident contact with customers and partners
Likeable, open-minded and strategic thinker (m/f/d) with innovative flair for original thinking in new fields without established routines and processes
Fluent in English and German, both written and spoke

This is a fixed-term contract for two years.
